September 2010 - 7:29On 7 May 2010 the WIPO Secretariat published a paper entitled "WIPO Scoping Study on Copyright and Related Rights and the Public Domain" prepared by Professor Séverine Dusollier (Professor, University of Namur, Belgium). This study was produced as an output of the WIPO Committee on Development and Intellectual Property's (CDIP) thematic project on intellectual property and the public domain which is predicated upon Recommendations 16 and 20 of the Development Agenda.

WIPO drafting groups release text for a possible legal instrument for the protection of traditional cultural expressions

July 2010 - 5:08As mentioned in two previous KEI blogs, the WIPO's First Intersessional Working Group received its mandate from the 16th WIPO Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore (IGC) to 'provide legal and technical advice and analysis, including, where appropriate, options and scenarios for consideration of the IGC' including the outcomes, recommendations and texts relating to the discussion specifically on a working document containing draft provisions for a possible instrument for the protection of traditional cultural expressions/e
WIPO CDIP approves certain components of Project on Intellectual Property and the Public Domain
Submitted by thiru on 20. November 2009 - 8:10The Fourth Session of WIPO's Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP) is taking place from 16 November 2009 to 20 November 2009.
Among the projects under consideration this week is is the project on Intellectual Property and the Public Domain based on recommendations 16 and 20 of the Development Agenda.
Recommendation 16 states:
New Cluster B text (Draft Agreed Proposals) out on Norm-setting, Flexibilities, Public Policy and Public Domain
Submitted by thiru on 14. June 2007 - 9:12The following Cluster B text came out of the informal green room negotiations which broke out around 7 PM Geneva time last evening. The only word that seems to have brackets is the word “competition”.
1. In its activities, including norm-setting, WIPO should take into account the flexibilities in international IP agreements, especially those which are of interest to developing countries and LDCs.
