On Wednesday February 22, 2012, from 12:30pm to 2:30pm, KEI will host a roundtable discussion on international copyright negotiations. The location of the meeting will be 1621 Connecticut Ave, NW, Suite 500, Washington, DC 20009. There will be an opportunity to participate by telephone, via toll free calls in many countries. The topics to be discussed are the following International copyright negotiations:
- The United States Trade Representative (USTR) Annual Special 301 Report, which will be published around April 1.
- The very aggressive proposals for the Intellectual Property chapter of the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA), a trade agreement involving the governments of Brunei, Chile, New Zealand, Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, Peru, Vietnam and the United States (and possibly Thailand, Canada, Mexico, Japan, and the Philippines).
- The UK Consultation on copyright policy
- The Anti-counterfeiting trade agreement (ACTA)
- The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Standing Committee on Copyrigth and Related Rights negotiations on treaties for broadcasting organizations, performers, and persons with disabilities, and disucssions about copyright limitations and exceptions for libraries and education.
- WTO discussions on the copyright 3-step test.
The meeting will be a brown bag format. Bring your lunch (we will supply the unhealthy sodas and bad coffee, and some cookies).
Among those leading the discussions will be Jonathan Band of Policy Bandwidth, Rashmi Rangnath of Public Knowledge, James Love of KEI, Melissa Levine, lead copyright officer at the University of Michigan Library, and Jérémie Zimmermann – La Quadrature du Net (TBC).
