At the close of the last meeting (June 29 to July 3, 2015), the WIPO Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) requested that the Chair prepare for its next session (December 7 to 11, 2015) a “consolidated text” with respect to 1) definitions, 2) object of protection, and 3) rights to be granted for the proposed treaty for the protection of broadcasting and cablecasting organizations.

TPP has provision banning requirements to transfer of or access to source code of software

Updated. The TPP E-Commerce chapter has a provision banning requirements to transfer or provide access to software source code. This applies to “mass market software.”

Article 14.17: Source Code
1. No Party shall require the transfer of, or access to, source code of software owned by a person of another Party, as a condition for the import, distribution, sale or use of such software, or of products containing such software, in its territory.

WIPO General Assembly 2015: Proposed Agenda Item 12 Decision Paragraph on the SCCR Report (Adopted)

In the early hours of Thursday morning, 15 October 2015, the WIPO General Assembly adopted the following decision related to the future work of the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR). There was no consensus on future work so the Assembly directed the SCCR to “continue its work” on the protection of broadcasting organizations and copyright limitations and exceptions.
